Opening Ptm Files
- TFW files are saved in a plain text format. They store a series of lines that specify the X and Y pixel size, rotational information, and the world coordinates for the top-left corner of the image. NOTE: TFW world files do not store actual image data, but are typically saved as a separate file alongside a.TIF file.

Files that contain the file extension PTM are associated with multiple programs and applications and various file types. The most common association is MapPoint, but the file extension can also be created with PolyTracker or BioWare. PTM files contain data and information related to the program that created the file.
The ptm file extension is mainly associated with Microsoft MapPoint, a program used by business users to visualize, analyze, and communicate data. MapPoint includes updated geographic and demographic data, plus new features including advanced GPS functionality, text and voice-prompted driving guidance for users.
If the file extension PTM is related to MapPoint, it is a GIS file type that contains data which describes travel routes for business, sales regions, and references to files created with Microsoft Office. MapPoint is a Geographic Information System (GIS) application created by Microsoft for the purpose of mapping out business travel.
PTM files that are created with PolyTracker are an audio file type that contains clips and musical notation that can be played back using an audio tracking application. PolyTracker is an older application used for playing back music tracks.
PTM files that are associated with BioWare are a game file type that contains objects, playing levels, icons, and other data that is used with the BioWare Aurora Engine. The Aurora Engine is an application used to run a series of gaming applications created by BioWare.

How to Open PTM Files
Since PTM files are associated with multiple programs and applications, double click on the file to see if it will automatically open in a default program you have installed on your PC. PTM files can consist of different file types, so you may already have a program which will open them.
If the PTM file is a part of MapPoint, you can open it using the Microsoft MapPoint application, which is available in a free trial version on the Microsoft website. MapPoint works with Windows versions XP and higher.
PTM files that are related to PolyTracker can be opened using a variety of music tracking applications. For a Windows-based PC, you can open PTM files using MODPlug Player, which is an open source music tracking program available as a free download on the MODPlug website. You can also use Nullsoft Winamp Media Player 5.6, which is available on the Winamp website.
For Mac OS X, you can open PolyTracker PTM files using CocoModX for Mac, which is available as a free download on the CNET website. You can also use VideoLAN VLC Media Player, which can be downloaded free of cost from the VideoLAN website. VLC Media Player is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and the Linux operating system.
PTM files that are created by BioWare can be opened using the BioWare Aurora Engine, which is available on the BioWare website. Aurora Engine is compatible with the Windows operating system for version XP and higher.
Other possible reasons why your .PTM file does not want to open
In addition to the problem described above, i.e. the lack of the appropriate application to support the .PTM file, there may be several reasons that cause problems with opening and operation of the data format:
1. Incorrect version of the installed application
A quite common problem is the lack of application in the appropriate version. Even if you have an application, with the help of which you should open the .PTM file, you may have a problem with it because of its version. Perhaps in previous versions the application has not yet supported the .PTM file, so download the update and check again.
2. Incorrect .PTM file association with the program
If you have already installed the appropriate application, and it is the correct version, the file may not open correctly, because the operating system does not have information that this program supports the file. So you need to 'show' which program the computer should use. To do this:
- Right-click the .PTM file
- Go to the 'Open with' - then 'Choose default program ...'
- Locate the appropriate application
- Click 'OK'
3. The file is corrupt

It also happens that the file you want to open is corrupt and therefore there is no such possibility. In this situation, you should find its different version, or ask a person from whom you got, to send it again.
