Insydeflash Windows Bios Flash Utility Download
- As a part of my efforts to remedy the problem, I am trying to flash the BIOS to 1.16. However, the InsydeFlash utility obtained from Acer's 'Support & Downloads' page will not run the BIOS update until the battery is at least 15% charged. This introduces a 'chicken and egg' scenario where the problem I'm trying to resolve with a BIOS update is.
- I have had my pavilion dv6-2030sa bios currupt for no apparent reason, I am trying to make a recovery USB, when i download and execute the bios update utility, it extracts to c:swsetupexename and runs 'WinFlash.exe' after extracting the files from that, it runs the InsydeFlash.exe (or InsydeFlashx64.exe) and states 'cannot load the driver. Please close all applications' I am trying on.
- This package updates the UEFI BIOS (including system program and Embedded Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions.
- Flashing the BIOS with a dead battery is asking for problems. If for some reason the system loses power during the update, your system is bricked and only a new motherboard can fix it. Even with a good battery unless you are having a specific problem that the update addresses it.
The Phoenix WinPhlash utility is a 32-bit/64 bit application which runs in a Windows environment to update, backup, and restore the system BIOS on a flash device. This utility can use an optional settings file called PHLASH.INI.
After upgrading the BIOS of my Acer 3410 laptop, it started running hotter than usual, and more noisier Now I don’t know if this is specific to the newer BIOS, since the overly short description on Acer’s website doesn’t mention anything related to CPU speed / coolers, etc. It only says: Improves battery charging performance.
And since I did not have any issue with its the battery, I was willing to try a downgrade. The older 1.24 version did not want to cooperate: The version of ROM file isn’t newer than version of BIOS. Don’t know if all InsydeFlash BIOSes come with a platform.ini file, but the ZIP downloaded from Acer’s website included this file. I realized it is.ini file of the application and while looking through it I found the section below: [Bios_Version_Check] flag=1 I just had to put the flag=0 and that’s it!
I was able to proceed with the downgrade. A couple of notes from my experience. I needed to fallback the BIOS on my Acer Aspire M5-583P laptop from 2.30 to 2.25. As posted elsewhere, Acer does not support rollback of the BIOS.
(Actually, they don’t support much past selling cheap laptops) So, I did download the older BIOS from the Acer support site, but I needed to do 2 things: 1) Use 7-zip to unpack the ZRQ_255.exe. That will give you the directory with the InsydeFlash.exe and the platform.ini files, amongst others. YOU WILL NOT FIND IT IN THE ZRQ.fd file in this directory, because of the way the self-extracting.EXE is made with 7-Zip’s SFX technique. 2) Get the ZRQ.fd from the%temp% spot: users * appdata local temp * ZRQ.fd.
This is created when you run the ZRQ_255.exe and exists only while the EXE is running. So, when it complains about ROM versions. Copy it to wherever you put the extraction from step (1). Once the ZRQ.fd file is in the directory and the platform.ini file modified to disable BIOS version checking., it’ll work!!!! Thank you for this post!

.I wouldn't worry about it, assuming the BIOS update came from Toshiba. You didn't say where you downloaded it from. I have a Toshiba laptop myself, so I know how their pre-installed software can tell you that you need to do these things.

You should also give consideration to how you're going to back your system up so when the inevitable malfunction of one sort or another hits, you're not hit with a bigger disaster than need be. I have to tell you that before I read your post, I'd never heard of Insydeflash. I did a Google search to find out what it does. If you have questions about it, you could ask Toshiba. You could do a full system scan with your antivirus program, if you suspect it's not on the up and up.
My experience with Toshiba has been pretty good - far from perfect, but among the better ones. Since your computer is new, it's under warranty, but if you get a software problem, that warranty won't help, so be careful and back your system up regularly! Greetings, all. I had a very similar experience on a new Dell Inspiron 17 laptop running Windows 8. I got an alert from Dell about a necessary upgrade to the BIOS file, and clicked on it - it ran this Insydeflash protocol, and now my Firefox browser refreshes every 20 seconds or so, interrupting typing. I've got a McAfee antivirus that came with the machine, and it didn't flag the file when I ran it, but I'm now at the point where this is totally frustrating. I tried resetting Firefox and that worked the first time, but it didn't work this morning.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this are welcome. You don't know how long of a period between when your laptop was built and you purchased. Sometimes even though you have a new PC there could be updates out there. If you are computer savvy I would look on the Toshiba site under your model and the driver download section and look for the BIOS. It will contain the version and check what your machine has. I believe it the version you have already it will say if you try to flash the same version.
If your not a techie Toshiba support will walk you through it.
